Snow & Ice
Removal
What are ice dams & why are they concerning?
Ice dams form when snow on your roof begins to melt and refreeze near the eaves. Heat escaping from the home warms the upper portion of the roof, causing snow to melt and flow downward. When that water reaches the colder roof edge, it refreezes and gradually builds up into a ridge of ice. This “dam” prevents additional meltwater from draining properly, forcing water back up under the shingles. Once trapped, that moisture can penetrate the roof system and make its way into the home, leading to interior leaks, damaged insulation, stained ceilings, and compromised roofing materials. Over time, freeze-thaw cycles can also crack shingles, loosen fasteners, and accelerate roof deterioration.
