Cedar

A Premium Quality roof

Natural Beauty & Protection for Your Home

Homeowners throughout Fairfield County, CT and Westchester County, NY choose cedar roofing for its ability to complement classic and coastal architecture while providing reliable protection in New England’s demanding climate.

At Roofing Solutions of CT, we specialize in cedar shake and shingle installation. Not all cedar is the best fit for your home. At Roofing Solutions of CT we highly recommend using pressure-treated cedar supplied from Canadian mills. The reason is to ensure we're using old-growth cedar that is naturally superior and enhanced with treatments to last longer.

Perfection Cut

We install two distinct cuts of cedar roofing: Perfection Shingles and Tapersawn Shakes. The primary difference between the two is thickness. A Perfection Shingle is machine-cut to a consistent 3/8" thickness, while a Tapersawn Shake is heavier at 5/8" thickness.

Both options are available in a variety of lengths and widths to suit your home’s architecture. They can be installed natural or pressure-treated or stained. We source premium Alaskan Yellow Cedar and Alaskan Red Cedar, depending on the desired aesthetic and performance goals.

The increased thickness of the Tapersawn Shake provides a measurable performance advantage: greater durability, improved resistance to the elements, and typically 5–10 additional years of lifespan compared to Perfection Shingles.

What to know about cedar

Roofing Solutions of CT & NY After Photo.png

Cedar is one of the most timeless and architecturally rich roofing materials available. It enhances the character of a home while offering natural insulation, breathability, and long-term performance when properly selected and installed.

Not all cedar shingles are the same quality. Differences in where the cedar is sourced, how it’s milled, and how it’s graded have a significant impact on how the roof performs over time - especially in the our area's varied climate.

At Roofing Solutions of CT, we exclusively install Canadian tapersawn cedar shingles. These shingles are denser, more dimensionally stable, and better suited for the freeze–thaw cycles, moisture levels, and seasonal temperature swings common in our region. The result is a roof that not only looks exceptional, but is built to perform consistently for decades.

Our approach to cedar roofing is rooted in material selection, craftsmanship, and experience - ensuring your home receives the full benefit of what a cedar roof is meant to offer.
